Mission

Bandiera italiana

The sustainable management of agri-food and forestry systems and precision agriculture are multi-disciplinary issues that transversally involve various subjects from the industrial to the agro-forestry and food sectors.

The rapid development and diffusion of technological innovations require an equally rapid adaptation of current production and transformation models for their profitable introduction.

There are various areas of research that concern the economic, engineering, environmental, energy, production organization and qualitative-quantitative performance aspects of production. In all these areas, innovation requires both the conception of new applications and services and the improvement of the efficiency, reliability and sustainability of existing ones.

The Doctorate in "Advanced and sustainable agricultural-forestry systems" (SAFAS) implements a high-level training course that aims to train Research Doctors whose scientific and technical qualifications are attractive to academic institutions, public and private bodies and companies, in the field national and international.

The Doctorate aims to raise the standard of the third university training cycle by training PhDs capable of conducting advanced and highly innovative research at an international level but also with important implications on the Tuscan and national territory. At the end of the training course, the Ph.D will have high-profile technological, agronomic, zootechnical and engineering skills, which will allow improving productivity, sustainability and quality of agricultural-forestry and agri-food production.

The doctoral program involves the participation of various national and international research groups to provide continuous updating on research developments. Below is a first-level description of the main research themes of each group. Links take you to group pages which provide more details about the research activities and the people involved.

The activities carried out by the observatory are however the result of inter-university collaboration and dialogue between associations, institutions, financiers and businesses. The observatory allows direct access to the NFS published annually by Italian companies through a database. Furthermore, the observatory analyzes the DNFs collected with the aim of examining the evolution of corporate sustainability reporting practices.

The DNF observatory has designed and makes accessible to each user an interactive dashboard that allows the salient characterizing features of the sustainability reporting of Italian companies to be detected through various summary infographics.
