Through integrated and multidisciplinary research, the activities will focus on precision agriculture, digitalisation, information systems, digital methods, and technologies to measure, analyze and interpret the spatial and temporal variability of agricultural crops, forests, parasitic attacks, abiotic stresses, animal production, and soil types. A particular focus will be given to the tools, techniques and strategies to make plant, animal and agri-food production more efficient and sustainable, improving their health, quality, safety and healthiness.
Attention will be paid to the sensorial characterization of the products, to consumers' perceptions and preferences, to the integration of sustainability in the management systems of agri-food companies, and to the measurements and certifications of corporate sustainability performance. The impact of sustainability on the corporate business model will also be examined.
The educational success of the doctoral path will make it possible to fill the gap in fundamental skills on the issues of "smart" solutions along the entire agri-food chain, constituting a precious resource for a new sustainable green revolution, which responds to the sustainability and circularity objectives that they assume increasingly important in national and international regulations and meet consumer expectations regarding the agri-food production system.
